The collapse of the Soviet Union could not be intellectually integrated by the then probably most influential Trotskyist theoretician, the Belgian economist Ernest Mandel. Specifically Mandel’s belief that the Soviet nuclear arsenal provided “a measure of protection” to the Soviet state as such appears illusory. But John McCarthy’s devotion to justice and in particular to what are now known as “first nation Australians” was unquestionable. His companion of that time, the later well-known Marcia Langton, would not dispute that, in my opinion. Phillip is not the relatively well-known veteran Australian journalist of the same name. He is a Greek-Australian who played a sterling role in the defence of Julian Assange. He participated in an online tribute to Julian that was held on Australia Day in Athens in 2019. Wayne Hall Die Fusion kleiner systemkritischer Parteien bietet meiner Ansicht nach kein Potenzial, die Marginalisierung der für Wahrheit und Freiheit eintretenden politischen Gruppierungen umzukehren. Seit den Lockdowns argumentiere ich, dass es einen anderen Weg gibt, mit der politischen Fragmentierung umzugehen: nicht durch die Fortführung der Parteienlogik, sondern durch eine Reform der (oder „einer“) zweiten Parlamentskammer, die das allgemeine Wahlrecht (anstelle dessen) aufgibt und sie in eine „Unabhängige Bürgerversammlung“ umwandelt. Selbstverständlich müsste ein Gericht eingerichtet werden, das die Befugnis hat zu entscheiden, wer das Recht hat – oder besser gesagt, wer nicht –, als „unabhängiger Bürger“ zu gelten. Die Folge wäre, dass nicht-unabhängige Bürger auf die Rechte beschränkt würden, die Bürger heute genießen, also das Wahlrecht und das Recht, bei allgemeinen Wahlen zu kandidieren. „Beschränkt“ ist also nicht der richtige Ausdruck. Eine solche Reform würde der Bevölkerung insgesamt MEHR, nicht weniger Rechte einräumen als derzeit. Und zum ersten Mal scheint es möglich, das heutige Monopol der Parteipolitik und der diktatorischen Massenmedien zu brechen. Verfechter der direkten Demokratie könnten sich dann darauf konzentrieren, Anwälte und eine neue Generation von Beamten bei der Arbeit der Gerichte zu unterstützen.
